Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius.
Breaking News: the situation with my mother, since her stroke, has become more involved and time consuming than I first thought it would. She has had two surgeries and had to change nursing homes twice to accommodate the change in her health care needs. Consequently, we will not be at market at all this year. Thank you to everyone who has emailed asking about us and extending good wishes about my mom.
Update: Thank you to everyone who emailed asking when we might return to making jams and expressing concern for my mother. My mother is doing well and is now in a wonderful assisted living community in her hometown. We are searching for a new kitchen space to rent so that we can return to market in Spring 2012.
Happy Holidays
First Garden is a small batch producer of seasonal gourmet jams and baked goods. Our name represents our belief of using only the best and finest organic and natural ingredients. The first of the season. The finest from the orchards and fields. Preserved and reserved for you to enjoy.
We are committed to using the freshest in-season, natural or organic produce. Our goal is to use as many certified organic ingredients as we can find. Our Baked Goods are all natural with no preservatives, and contain many organic ingredients.
We use a two tier approach when purchasing our ingredients. The first being those ingredients that are “certified organic” and are labeled as such with the certified organic seal. Because we are also committed to supporting our local economy and know that many local farmers do not have the resources to obtain organic certification, we also purchase some fruit from trusted local farmers that follow organic growing practices. Produce purchased from trusted local farmers is labeled as “natural” on our ingredient list. We know this is good for our local economy, our environment and our health. Of course it also makes the best jams and baked goods!
Our jams are produced without the use of artificial pectin, like SureGel or Certo. We do not add any corn syrups, or other additives. For more information about pectin and corn syrup start with this information courtesy of Wikipedia:

Our Enviromental Commitment
We use organic based cleaning supplies whenever and wherever possible and we recycle all of our waste. Most of our jars are purchased from a local supplier based in downtown Milwaukee. Our printing is contracted locally, and we print on recycled paper whenever possible. Our packaging is either 100% compostable, made from recycled materials and/or is recycleable.
Please help us in our commitment to the environment and recycle the jars. Consider returning your empty jars and we will buy them back for 50 cents.
